Description:
The Corporate Transparency Act will go into effect January 1, 2024, and presents a significant update to existing U.S. anti-money laundering laws, playing an important role in combatting money laundering and other financial crimes. The CTA directs FinCEN to establish a national database of beneficial ownership information and requires existing and newly registered entities to file beneficial ownership reports with FinCEN.

The new legal framework will supplement current financial institutions reporting under FinCEN's Customer Due Diligence Rule, and presents new regulatory issues for financial institutions to consider.
