Goldsmith Romero nominated to lead FDIC

President Joe Biden nominated Christy Goldsmith Romero, a current commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, as the new chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

This follows FDIC Chair Martin Gruenberg’s announcement that he will resign once the Senate confirms his successor. Gruenberg’s decision came after an independent investigation revealed pervasive sexual harassment, discrimination and bullying at the FDIC.

Goldsmith Romero has over 20 years of experience as a federal attorney and in financial regulation. She has served under four Presidents and was appointed in her current role at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission by President Biden in 2022.
