Celebrating community all-stars

When you think of Hall of Fame caliber athletes, you see that they share several defining traits such as leadership, discipline and commitment to excellence. But the great ones are also masters of perseverance and resilience. They have an unquenchable desire to fight for their team despite obstacles — even when the odds are against them.

These are the defining characteristics of Texas bankers, which is why the theme of our 139th Annual Convention is Texas Bankers: Community All-Stars. 

All-stars always perform when it matters most. The convention will feature peer-led CEO and Senior Executive sessions identifying what it takes to be a high-performing bank. We’ll look at your offensive game plan, discussing community bank competitiveness through innovation. As fraud and cyber risk reach new levels of concern, there will be sessions about playing great defense. And speaking of someone who understands risk, this year’s Keefe, Bruyette, and Woods keynote speaker is former U.S. Secretary of State and CIA Director, Mike Pompeo!

Some regulators aren’t playing by the rules. You will get the latest news on TBA’s efforts to challenge Federal regulators who have exceeded their authority or are changing rules in the middle of the game. And, of course, great teams are always focused on recruiting and developing new talent. TBA will cover the bases on this topic as we convene university banking program leaders from across the state who are producing first-round draft picks!

The Convention, however, is not all business. There will be plenty of time for networking and fellowship. Wednesday is the annual golf tournament and, on Thursday night, don’t miss the Chairman’s Dinner and Bankers Bash with Texas music star, Aaron Watson!  Finally, on Friday we’ll honor two groups of true all-stars: our 50-Year Banker honorees and Emerging Leader award winners. 

It is fitting that our convention and all-star celebration will be at the brand-new Loews Hotel, just across from Globe Life Field, home of the World Series Champion Texas Rangers.
